  “Wow, Stevie,” Alex said, sounding impressed. “You didn’t even sound this brave when it was about going to the Nether, and Herobrine is way more dangerous than the Nether.”

  I realized that, too. Maybe knowing I could survive the Nether gave me strength and confidence. Being here with my friends helped me, too. Sometimes you had to go with unpleasant options if no other ones were available, but sometimes life could also be really pleasant, like when it gave you friends to help you out.

  “‘Prepare?’” Yancy repeated, still stuck on that word I’d used. “What do you mean, ‘prepare’?”

  “Prepare for the final battle with Herobrine,” I said. “You know there’s no way he’s being defeated without using all his powers first. He will create a huge battle with his own armies, and we will defeat him. Who’s with me?”

  I thought maybe the others would say all this was way too hard and they couldn’t handle it. But they raised their hands and cheered their agreement.

  Alex shot a big smile my way, hefting the quiver on her shoulder. “I always like a good challenge,” she said.
